What would You Do?

I knew it would happen
Eventually
Today
At the grocery store
I turned
To unknowingly stand
Face-to-face
With HER
She wouldn’t look me
In the eye
Or speak
So
I walked closer
Thrust out my hand
Smiled as
She flinched
Dropped her bread
Bewildered
She shook my hand
I thanked her
For everything
Befuddled
Eyes glazed with confusion
Teeth clenched
Braced for battle
She asked “Why”
“Because” I smirked
“If it weren’t for you
I’d still be married to him”
And I walked away
