I knew it would happen Eventually Today At the grocery store I turned To unknowingly stand Face-to-face With HER She wouldn’t look me In the eye Or speak So I walked closer Thrust out my hand Smiled as She flinched Dropped her bread Bewildered She shook my hand I thanked her For everything Befuddled Eyes glazed with confusion Teeth clenched Braced for battle She asked “Why” “Because” I smirked “If it weren’t for you I’d still be married to him” And I walked away |
