I hope you know

You look lonely,
I hope you know,
biting the inside of your cheek
poking the pulp out of your lime
your fingers
finding the beat on your knee.
looking away-
not flirty, just afraid
when someone shares your glance.

You look lonely, you know
not independent and
enjoying your own company
like some other people I've seen,
flicking your cigarette with shaky fingers
switching which leg crosses the other with
uncertain abandon.

You look lonely, I hope you know,
and for your sake,
I hope you don't meet anyone
as lonely as yourself
to make you feel ok about it.
