First Day of Summer

she wore a sundress
covered with flowers
glided over and asked me
to buy her a drink
said her name was Summer
told me her parents
gave her that name because
she was conceived on
the solstice and
I couldn’t stand to
look at her for very long
gazing at her was like
staring at the sun
but we laughed and
drank together until
she asked me to
take her back to my place
we had to walk and
it rained all the way home
